When Christian singer TobyMac appears in Minneapolis Saturday night, 60 7th-graders from White Bear Lake will be watching for free in Target Center luxury suites.
They’re classmates of Kinley Ogendi, the 12-year-old boy from Vadnais Heights who was killed last month. Kinley’s mother and younger sister were also slain; his father reportedly confessed to police and has been charged in the killing.
Kinley’s classmates at Sunrise Park Middle School knew TobyMac was Kinley’s favorite musician, so when they heard he was coming to town, one asked if he might perform a memorial concert at the school. That wasn’t possible, so the artist instead invited the students to the Target Center concert.
“We get tons of requests like this, but Kinley’s story really touched our hearts,” said Laurie Anderson, TobyMac’s agent and a Minnesota native. “We are grateful to be able to do something in memory of Kinley and for his family and friends.”
A local bus company has donated transportation for the students.
