Newsweek’s visual dichotomy: Face transplants and bank stress tests

Thursday’s home page at Newsweek.com featured a bit of visual awkwardness. A thumbnail photo of Connie Culp, who recently revealed her face transplant, was featured directly above the supposedly-comedic stock photo of a man’s face being squished by a wooden C-clamp to illustrate a Daniel Gross article about the recent bank stress tests.

The two subjects feature similar expressions, but are meant to garner two very different emotional responses.
