“If I curled up in a fetal position every time somebody filed a suit … we would not have gotten much done,” Minneapolis Mayor Rybak said of a legal challenge.
“Bottom line, we just want to make sure this deal is done right,” says former mayoral candidate Stephanie Woodruff, one of three challenging the action.
Next year’s budget includes new hires in the Police and Fire departments and $21 million in street construction.
The $400 million project gained committee approval Tuesday, with final action expected Friday.
There will be building signs but no roof signs, at least not so far, on the proposed Downtown East office towers.
Wells Fargo wants a rooftop sign on the building they are expected to occupy adjacent to the new Vikings stadium.
Just a month after Minneapolis’ crowded 35-candidate mayoral election, there’s a move to boost dramatically the city’s $20 filing fee for the office to $500.
A developer for the air rights over the parking ramp the city will be building as part of the project must be lined up by late February.
Money also was added for an adoption program for bully breed dogs.
The group will help her set the agenda for her first 10 days in office.
The 2014 budget calls for a 1 percent decrease in the total property tax levy.
“This is not a case of a high-speed response in which an officer ran a red light in a reckless manner,” Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau said.
The two agreed at Tuesday’s session on top agenda items, work to finish — and a smooth transition.
