Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul’s Como Park is one of few remaining Victorian ‘crystal palaces’

Built in the 1880s as high-density homes for immigrant workers, they were saved from destruction in the 1970s when neighborhood residents successfully organized to preserve the avenue as a historic district.
The hospital opened in 1879 and operated for more than 100 years.
Josiah Snelling’s family ran a successful baking business, but he built his career by enlisting in the military and working his way up.
