More evidence of how trendy book clubs have become — they’re being called “the ‘Slow Food’ movement for reading.”

Shelf Awareness, a newsletter for independent bookstores, chose this as today’s quote of the day:

“What we’ve discovered these past two years is that book groups are to reading what slow food is to the food industry. In this fast paced world, book groups give people a chance to connect, join in community and listen and learn in intimate environments.”

The writer, Joan Gelfand, is president of the Women’s National Book Association, sponsor of National Reading Group Month.

The full piece was posted over the weekend on Huffington Post, which just started on online book club.

Another interesting trend.
