Today’s winning book clubs present quite a contrast.
The Thursday Non-Fiction Book Club has 13 members — men and women — who have been together for more than 15 years. They meet ten times a year in southwest Minneapolis and the southwest suburbs.
They read “Lots of history, some science and social sciences, religion, politics. Occasionally biography, but non-fiction only.”
Recent reads: “American Lion” by Jon Meacham. “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell. “Mayflower” by Nathaniel Philbrick. “Geography of Bliss” by Eric Weiner. “My Stroke of Insight” by Jill Taylor.
The second winner is French River Readers — 14 women who meet monthly in Duluth. The club captain reports that “Our interests are all over the fiction map.”
Recent reads: “Good Grief” by Lolly Winston. “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger. “Fearless Fourteen” by Janet Evanovich. “The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield .
