Today’s a lucky day for a book club that meets every month at North Regional Library in North Minneapolis.

The club, called Webber Park, has won 10 vouchers for a new comedy called “Somebody/Nobody” opening next week at Mixed Blood.

The 12 women in the club been meeting for 11 years. According to the captain, ”We did not know each other in the beginning, but it is an important day on the first Wednesday of the month when we gather to discuss the book — and we really do focus on our purpose.”

They have explored many different interests over the years. Recent reads include “Run” by Ann Patchett, “Dewey the Library Cat” by Bret Witter and Vicki Myron, “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen, “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson, and “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy.

By the way, when I looked at our list of book clubs today, I noticed that 150 book clubs have registered with MinnPost’s Book Club Club since it launched in mid-September. New clubs keep joining.

It’s been a virtual community so far, but that will change on Sunday, March 7 when we hold the first Book Club Blast at Open Book. I look forward to meeting lots of you the old-fashioned way — face to face.
