This week, Kobo debuted its social reading app for the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform, reports Brenna Ehrlich at Mashable.
According to Kobo — the platform that powers Borders’ suite of e-reading devices and mobile apps — the app will allow BBM users to partcipate in virtual book clubs.
Users will be able to chat with friends while book shopping, read with a group, exchange passages, and discuss the book in realtime.
Will this e-reading experience catch on as a substitute for face-to-face book group discussions? I’m doubtful, but we’ll see.
The social reading application should be available for the BlackBerry Messenger SDK in early 2011.
