Female book bloggers name the best book club books of 2009

Choosing a book for your book club can be a challenge.

You want to pick a book that is new and fresh — one members haven’t already read.

You also want the story to be engaging enough that everyone will finish it before the next meeting.

Finally, you need a book that is rich and complex enough to allow for interpretation and to stimulate debate.

This might take the pressure off:

Flashlight Worthy Book Recommendations has posted a new list of books that your reading group is sure to enjoy — The Best Book Club Books of 2009.

12 excellent female book bloggers have each contributed a recommendation to the list, and each explains why her selection is a perfect fit for a book club discussion.

The expert recommendations include “The Day the Falls Stood Still” by Cathy Marie Buchanan — the story of a family unravelling amidst their son’s heroin addition, “Cost” by Roxana Robinson — which intertwines the history of Niagra Falls with an epic love story, and “Zeitoun” by Dave Eggers — a narrative nonfiction account of one family’s experience in the aftermath Hurricane Katrina.
