MinnPost is offering you a chance to win tickets to see folk-rock singer Marc Cohn live.

On Saturday, October 16, Touchstone Mental Health — a Minneapolis-based social service agency — will be holding their Notes of Inspiration benefit event featuring a private concert by the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter.

Cohn will perform his hits — including “Walking in Memphis,” “Silver Thunderbird” and “True Companion” — as well as songs from his summer 2010 cover album, “Listening Booth 1970.” These songs include covers of Cat Stevens, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Van Morrison.

In an interview with PopMatters, Cohn said that he draws inspiration for his lyrics from authors such as W.S. Merwin, Gabriel García Márquez, James Salter and Alice Miller: “It might be a line or a word, but reading something that is beautifully written makes me want to write.”

Marc Cohn will perform at the Pantages Theater in downtown Minneapolis at 8:30 p.m. Event details can be found here.

MinnPost is giving away 10 Friend-level tickets to Marc Cohn’s concert. If you are a registered BCC member and want to attend, send an email to aotto [at] minnpost [dot] com by Monday, October 4 at 5 pm. Include the number of tickets requested and an address to which the tickets can be mailed.

The Notes of Inspiration event will launch Touchstone Mental Health’s Rising Cedar Campaign to build a health and wellness center and 40 long-term supportive housing apartments in the Seward Community.
