“Wow! This is a great treat!” said Janice Goldstein when she received news that her book club won tickets to see to “The House of the Spirits.”
Mixed Blood Theatre generously provided tickets for one lucky BCC club to attend a performance of “The House of the Spirits”/”La Casa de los Espíritus,” based on Isabel Allende’s best-selling novel.
The winning club — The Grand Readers — formed three years ago when residents began moving into the newly constructed condominum building, The Grand.
“Our book group started as a way of getting to know our neighbors,” said Goldstein, “and to enhance the joy of reading by discussing books together.”
Over the years, club members have become more than neighbors — they’ve become friends.
The all-female group now meets monthly in the building’s community room to share snacks, discuss literature, and chat about everything from national and world affairs to their grandchildren.
These women say their reading list is as eclectic as their group.
Currently in the midst of “Mudbound” by Hillary Jordan, they recently finished Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and Gayla Marty’s “Memory of Trees.”
Upcoming book selections include Annette Atkins’ “Creating Minnesota: A History from the Inside Out” and Colum McCann’s “Let the Great World Spin.”
Congratulations to the women of The Grand Readers — enjoy the show!
