More and more these days, writers and readers are taking advantage of new social media tools to reach out to each other, engage in conversation and receive feedback.
Gabe Habash at Publishers Weekly recently reported on a Skype session author Meg Wolitzer held — simultaneously — with 10 different book clubs scattered across the country.
The book clubs — all members of More magazine’s book club “Eat, Drink, Read,” — were selected for participation in the author chat through a contest run earlier this summer.
For the event, More magazine, a womens lifestyle publication with a readership of more than two million, partnered with Skype, using their Premium Group Video Calling feature, which allows up to 10 people to connect on one video call. … While you might think the large number of participants and the remote locations might lead to some communication issues, the event went off without a hitch.
