Trying to buttress claims that the DonorGate lawsuit is “sleazy politics,” Norm Coleman’s campaign released a statement today identifying another villain: the media.
“Sometime last week, even before this Texas lawsuit was originally filed, a copy of these false allegations was delivered in Minnesota in an unmarked envelope to two Minneapolis Star Tribune reporters,” the statement alleges.
False, says plaintiff’s lawyer Casey Wallace.
“I’m the one that drafted the lawsuit and filed the lawsuit,” Wallace states. “I didn’t give it to anyone in the media in advance, not the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal or the Houston Chronicle.”
And you didn’t give it to the Star Tribune?
[Update: It’s possible “allegations” and “lawsuit” are different. Dunno.]
The lawsuit was filed Monday, Oct. 27. Reporter Paul McEnroe was shown chasing after Coleman on Wednesday. The case received its first media mention in the Pioneer Press Wednesday night. The Strib first put the story on its website Thursday night.
