Didn’t see anything this morning about Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s vote yesterday on the Joe Lieberman question.
Turns out there’s no surprise; Klobuchar — who is not exactly a member of the Congressional Daily Kos Caucus — voted with the 42-13 majority to let Lieberman keep his coveted Homeland Security committee chairmanship despite months of Obama-bashing.
Obama, in fact, provided the cover for senators like Klobuchar by urging soon-to-be-ex-colleagues to be merciful.
Klobuchar telegraphed her position several days ago when she told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow she wanted a Lieberman apology but “I would like him to remain in our caucus.”
Here’s her post-vote statement:
“The political season is over and the season for governance has begun. I appreciate that Sen. Lieberman has acknowledged he regretted some of the things he said in the heat of the electoral battle, and believe that the time has come to move forward — not out of revenge, but with a spirit of reconciliation and a focus on the future of our country.”
It will take only a couple of weeks for Joe to wander off the ranch again. He will be loyal only to himself and AIPAC as is his pattern. How can Amy vote for him after he campaigned against Franken and Obama whose campaign she chaired?
Actually Amy ran ads on the Daily Kos site when she was running for the Senate. Most Kossacks mentioning her are usually fairly favorable.
Try to remember that despite the demonization of Daily Kos by the attack dogs on the right, Markos “Kos” Moulitsas is an Army veteran and former Republican. The site is progressive, not liberal.
Maybe now that they have all the influence of a party that’s been thoroughly drubbed at the polls, Republicans will start to examine these sites for themselves instead of taking Rush and Sean’s word on the politics being debated by Kossacks, HuffPo’ers and FDLers.
Progressive politics is liberalism for cost accountants, and it beats the heck out of innumerate radical Republicanism.
