Pre-recount: Why did 1,500 Senate votes reappear?

Thursday afternoon, Norm Coleman’s margin expanded from 336 votes to 590, only to return to 336. In the raw numbers, 1,500 votes disappeared and reappeared. So what happened?

Beth Fraser of the Secretary of State’s office says it was a Hennepin County data error. The county had uploaded revised totals, only to realize some previously recorded votes were missing. The votes were restored, and so was Norm’s narrowed margin.
