For wonks only: 2010

Assuming that Barack Obama boosted central-city turnout in Minnesota relative to elsewhere, those areas will gain strength when DFL delegates are apportioned for 2010.

Since there will be a massive gubernatorial scrum, that could help central-city candidates in an endorsement battle. And, as in this year’s Senate race, the endorsement can be key.

Then again, sometimes the endorsement isn’t worth the paper it isn’t printed on.

Reapportionment probably will not occur until 2012 after they have finalized the census.

It will be interesting to see what shifts occur and the number of incumbents that are forced to run off against each other. And whether or not Minnesota can retain all of its U.S. House seats.

John – just to be clear, I’m not talking about redistricting, but how the DFL internally apportions delegates who make their 2010 endorsement.
