Devilish tip-jar journalism: Published!

Ed Kohler netted his 50 bucks two days ahead of schedule, and publishes his latest alt-weekly broadside.
By David Brauer

Follow-up to this morning’s post: Ed Kohler netted his 50 bucks two days ahead of schedule, and publishes his latest alt-weekly broadside, “How City Pages Ad Department is Gaming Their Restaurant Reviews.”

In the interest of protecting Rachel Hutton’s reputation, I should note the alleged gaming does not occur in the paper or on citypages.com, but an affiliated “personal recommendation engine” called likeme.net. For now, that site appears swamped with “reviews” (including verbatim promotional copy) that Village Voice Media ad staff submitted without full disclosure.

By the way, as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, Ed says he was at plus-$84. Since he allowed contributions from folks wanting to stop the story, he may be rolling in a three-figure payday.
