Ex-Capitol reporter Wente back in Forum fold

A savvy state Capitol reporter is rehired by the chain that laid him off.
By David Brauer

In yesterday’s item on the Red Wing Republican-Eagle slicing its print schedule from five days to two, I referenced owner Forum Communication’s earlier layoff of state Capitol reporter Scott Wente.

Shortly after my post went live, I received an email from Jeff Patterson, publisher of the South Washington County Bulletin and Woodbury Bulletin. Turns out Wente was hired a week or so ago to cover city and county government, and spot news.

The Bulletins, like the Republican-Eagle, are Forum-owned, meaning Wente is back in the corporate fold after a two-month gap. While the chain’s statewide readership lost a savvy, experienced voice, the east metro has now gained one.

By the way, the Strib’s Steve Alexander has a good follow-up on the Republican-Eagle’s announcement here.
