OK, the ever-shifting details of President Obama’s Saturday health care speech have finally settled. According to the White House, it’s at Target Center, the program begins at 12:30 p.m., and the doors open on a first-come, first-served basis at 9:30 a.m.

Yes, there’s a Twins game that starts 20 minutes before the program starts, and yes, the Gophers open tailgating 10 minutes before that (even though the stadium opener kickoff is 6 p.m.).

From the White House media release:

This event is free and open to the public.  Space is available on a first come, first serve basis. No ticket is required.

All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, no sharp objects, no umbrellas, no liquids, no strollers, and no signs will be allowed into the venue. Cameras are permitted.

According to the itinerary, Air Force One is scheduled to touch down at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport’s Air National Guard location at 12:20 p.m.

  1. John – I tweeted, rather than published here, because I only had a single source with no other corroborating info. (Yesterday, I initially had a single source, but some other info as backup.)

That wasn’t enough for me to go on after breaking the initial story, but I figured my Twitter followers would at least like a progress report.

As it turned out, what I tweeted (Target Center, 11 a.m.) wasn’t quite right. I didn’t know it was 12:30 until the White House release came out, at which time I published here. MPR’s Tom Scheck, at least, beat me on the web with that, so he gets today’s kudos.

  2. So is the President really going to get from the airport to downtown in 10 minutes?

  3. Details have been sketchy…is the Target Center expected to fill up or will seats be available up until he speaks?
