‘Star and Sickle’ no more

Is this another sign of newspapers’ declining influence, or did Chris Harte’s ideological rejiggering of the editorial pages pay off?

The right-wing World Net Daily alerts us to “Operation: Can You Hear Us Now?” which will stage demonstrations outside media outlets Oct. 17 to get journalists to pay attention to those undercovered anti-Democrat protests. (I know! I didn’t realize there were folks out there who were mad!)

In the Twin Cities, the tea partiers have picked their “left wing media outlet,” and it’s … KARE11? Cute, cuddly KARE? Diana Pierce’s station? Not the Minneapolis-based newspaper regularly villified on the right as the “Star and Sickle”?

I hope this isn’t a Sven thing. Me? I’d go over to WCCO, where Don Shelby is always talking about saving energy and other Commie notions.

Strategically, it’s not a dumb move. KARE is a ratings leader, and the protestors have only targeted a few newspapers nationwide. But on some level, this screams “slim pickings” among the local mainstream media.

Don’t the tea party protesters have anything better to do with their lives? Are they really serious about protesting KARE 11 news of all places? Are there any tea party supporters on here that can answer these simple questions?

Fox News has so polluted the political airwaves that folks I know who watch it insist that it truly is “Fair and Balanced”! So much for a well-informed populace. No wonder we are watching our country go wacky, as proved by those who consider any of the media who don’t flog the Obama admin every minute of the day as “lefty.”

I’m tempted to go to KARE 11 that day and holding a counter protest with a big sign that says, GET A REAL JOB!
