Christmas gift: Reliving the Twins’ Game 163

Thanks to fanaticism and media credentials, I attended every Twins home playoff game in their 1987 and 1991 World Series chases. But my son wasn’t born yet, so he never got a taste of the spine-tingling terror and explosive bliss of witnessing a ’91 Game Seven — until this year’s Game 163, which dad scored online tickets for.

As the Star Tribune’s Joe Christensen notes, the game was “blur” — not just for harried writers, but overwhelmed fans. So it’s ultra-cool that Fox Sports North is broadcasting an annotated look-back at Game 163 on Christmas Night. Theoretically, this is the perfect way to do it: intercut game action with insight from manager Ron Gardenhire.

There are four rebroadcasts through March, but why wait? The one to watch is 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 25; set your DVRs. And if you don’t have cable, AM1500 will rebroadcast Game 163, likely without added content, at 5 p.m. Thursday (Christmas Eve).
