The decade in big pictures

Via MPR’s Tom Scheck, you should really check out the Boston Globe’s “Decade in news photographs,” which takes their Big Picture web concept and multiplies it by 10 years.

Warning: The selections will make you hate the ’00s even more, and there are dead bodies sprinkled throughout (though you have to click through a caution to see them). But even if you’re squeamish, or depressed that journalists emphasize the tragic, the glorious shot of the Martian sunset makes it all worthwhile.

By the way, ignore all the idiots in the comments who insist the decade runs 2001 to 2010.

It has been a week since an idiot checked in, so I thought it must be my turn to speak. I intended to post earlier, but was distracted by a small shiny object a couple days ago. I feel torn between chastising you for insulting your readers by calling them idiots, and praising you for knowing them well.

I feel that the only thing worse than a worthless decade list is a worthless decade list a year early. I would be interested to read a piece on the inexplicable need to assemble lists and group events. Perhaps, it is an organizational disorder.

Let’s all take a moment to ponder the number line, and next year we can do another decade list.
