City Pages parent debuts ‘Happy Hours’ app

When you need to get hammered on the cheap, who better to ask than an alt-weekly employee?

When you need to get hammered on the cheap, who better to ask than an alt-weekly employee? That simple truth makes for this logical pairing unveiled Tuesday: City Pages’ parent, Village Voice Media, unveiled a free iPhone and Android “Happy Hours” app.

Apps that use your location to find nearby and ongoing discount drink fests aren’t unprecedented; VVM’s tech partner, GoTime, has had something like this for awhile, and Seattle’s The Stranger put out a branded app a year ago. Still, the concept is sound: pair up GoTime’s standard listings with reviews and other editorial content (and of course, ads) from City Pages and other VVM titles. Hopefully, this all puts a bit more cash into VVM’s pockets and a bit of it arrives in the Twin Cities editorial budget.

Check out the app (which also covers 29 other cities) and let us know what you think in the comments. How does it compare to your current favorite tippling advisor?
