Minnesota Daily named best college daily in America

I'm not big on writing up every local journalism award out there, because frankly, categories are sprouting like weeds and the competition isn't always as robust as it should be.

That said, congratulations to the University of Minnesota Daily, which the national Society of Professional Journalists just named the "Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper." That one's hard-fought. It recognizes the best work published in 2009

With the disclaimer that I'm a proud Daily alum, there are a hell of a lot of talented folks streaming into the world from the organization's offices. You might consider hiring individual award-winners such as Jules Ameel (feature photography), Matthew Mead (general news photography), Robert Downs (feature writing finalist) and McKenna Ewen (televised sports reporting).

And a neighborly atta-boy to Minnesota State Moorhead's Todd Kurtz, who snared the TV News Photography trophy. The Moorhead staff was also a finalist for all-around TV newscast.
