Scott Fagerstrom out as editor-in-chief of Finance & Commerce

8 p.m. Tuesday update: Finance & Commerce is now advertising for a managing editor.

Scott Fagerstrom, the editor-and-chief of Minneapolis-based Dolan Media’s Finance & Commerce Media Group, was fired this week. Dolan executives were not available for comment, but Fagerstrom confirmed the move. Considering the fresh separation agreement, he politely declined further comment.

Fagerstrom’s primary responsibility was F&C, a development paper, where he encouraged the paper’s reporters to ruffle more feathers. His media group responsibilities involved strategy for Dolan’s other local titles, Politics In Minnesota and Minnesota Lawyer.

It does not appear a successor has been named, and it’s possible one won’t be. All three titles recently instituted online pay walls, but I haven’t heard much raving about big subscriber numbers. We’ll see what the new org chart looks like when the execs call me back.

There have been no changes at PIM, which managing editor Steve Perry runs on a day-to-day basis and has staffed up in recent months. Minnesota Lawyer also appears unaffected. It’s unclear who will run the show at F&C, but former MinnPost news editor Casey Selix and Jeff Sjerven are listed as features and news editors, respectively.
