Washington Independent shuts down, Minnesota Independent unaffected

The Washington Independent, the D.C. site of Minnesota Independent parent American Independent News Network, announced it was shutting down today. D.C. editor Aaron Wiener blamed foundation donations that dried up “long ago.”

How will the Washington closure impact the Minnesota site? It won’t, says MnIndy’s Paul Schmelzer. “Minnesota will remain unchanged, thankfully,” he says.

The local site cut back months ago, but still has Schmelzer, Andy Birkey and AINN’s Patrick Caldwell as regular contributors.
