MPR names Jon McTaggart to succeed Bill Kling as CEO

This is absolutely no shocker: the American Public Media Group board — MPR’s corporate parent — has just named current Chief Operating Officer Jon McTaggart to succeed the only CEO the group has ever known, Bill Kling.

I don’t have much more than the station’s news release at the moment, but you would’ve gotten very short odds that MPR would stay in-house. McTaggart joined MPR in his early 20s; he’s steeped in the culture, for better or worse. Given MPR’s dominant position among public radio stations nationwide, MPR’s board clearly felt that was for the better. According to the release, the selection was unanimous.

Kling is also President of AMPG, another title McTaggart will inherit. McTaggart will also be president and CEO of Minnesota Public Radio. The crown passes July 1.

MPR’s very solid story (it’s like they knew!) is here.
