Gander’s ammo sales go great guns; also: guys go for Target games, Select Comfort wants you to sleep in

Do economic worries cause some people to stock up on weapons? That’s the theory the Motley Fool takes away in jest after reading Gander Mountain‘s latest earnings report. Gun and ammo sales are among the few bright spots this spring for the St. Paul-based outdoor retailer. The company took a hit from the slow economy and the cool weather, the Star Tribune reports.

Guys are apparently still buying Xbox games but making that pair of jeans go a little further. Target‘s May sales report shows electronics remained strong, but men’s apparel was among the weakest categories, Associated Press reports. Other areas that didn’t do well last month were jewelry and lawn and patio products. Same-store sales fell 0.7 percent, within the range Target predicted.

Select Comfort wants you to spend the first day of summer sleeping in. The maker of the Sleep Number bed is asking Americans to sign an online pledge to get an extra hour of sleep on June 20, the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. It’s also a Friday, so you might need to check with your boss first.
