This year’s presidential race has already been one of historic firsts.

Now, Xcel Energy points out another: This is the first time the same electric utility will serve both conventions in separate cities in the same year. And they’ll do it with wind power. A press release says Xcel will generate enough wind power in both states to offset the estimated 3,000 megawatt-hours the conventions will suck up.

A Best Buy memo leaked to the Consumerist says the company has set up special customer service teams for the store’s biggest spenders. Reward Zone customers who spend more than $2,500 a year and call customer service get “more immediate help” from more experienced representatives. They also get a “heightened level” of “policy exception consideration.” Comments on the blog are split: just like Vegas casinos, or a fair perk for good customers?

Wilsons Leather has dropped to penny-stock status over the past year. Now Nasdaq says the company no longer meets its requirements for listing, but the Brooklyn Park retailer says it plans to appeal the decision. Nasdaq rules say listed stocks can’t be valued less than $1 for more than 30 consecutive days. Wilson’s stock has been under $1 since around Christmas and was selling for a dime at the start of this week.

  1. “Xcel will generate enough wind power in both states to offset the estimated 3,000 megawatt-hours the conventions will suck up.”

And, if one adds the potential energy from the hot air generated by the various pundits during each convention, we would have enough electricity to run the LRT for a month.
