Ameriprise Financial provides 57 reasons for groups to give thanks

Fifty-seven nonprofits around the country are giving thanks this week for grants doled out by Ameriprise Financial.

Among the Minneapolis-based financial company’s recent grants are:

• Support for a program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa that provides nutritious meals for children. Its Backpack Buddies Program serves 300 young people.

• Funding for the North Minneapolis Community Support Initiative. The grant will help the Neighborhood Involvement Program “provide integrated services that assist low-income families in becoming more independent, help youth make better life choices and ensure that aging adults remain self-sufficient and connected to the community,” the announcement said.

• Financial support and volunteers for Desert Mission Food Bank in northern Phoenix. Among its services are emergency food boxes and a low-cost market where low-income families can purchase food at significantly reduced prices.
The company is now accepting grant applications for 2009 funding. Application deadlines are Feb.1, May 1 and Sept. 1.
