Culture clash: Dannon disputes General Mills yogurt claims

Call it a culture clash. General Mills has been accused by a competitor of making misleading claims about its YoPlus “digestive health” yogurt. Dannon, which makes Activia yogurt, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. According to DairyReporter.com, the bureau’s advertising division sided with Dannon in its complaint. At issue was whether a strain of bacteria, Bb12, contained in YoPlus is equivalent to the stomach-aiding bugs found in Activia. The bureau said no, and that General Mills should “avoid communicating the unsupported message that the Yo-Plus product itself has been proven to help ‘regulate digestive health’ and expressly limit any digestive health benefit claims to the ingredient Bb12.”
