NYT asks if Best Buy’s best is good enough in recession

Best Buy: Fueled by Red Bull. On Saturday, The New York Times took a look at how Best Buy is faring in this recession. Store managers are “bending over backward to attract shoppers and are encouraged to put their personal stamp on the stores,” the paper says. For example, a New York store manager recently gave into her employees’ requests for a Red Bull vending machine in the store to help keep them going during the long, exhausting holiday season. No retailer is immune to the “seismic” drop in consumer spending seen over the last few months, but Best Buy is a “strong operator” and will weather the storm, an analyst says.
