Report: Target preparing for headquarters layoffs

Target is preparing to lay off an undisclosed number of employees at its headquarters in Minneapolis, according to news reports.

A spokeswoman told the Star Tribune in a prepared statement, “Like many other companies, Target is taking actions to manage payroll and non-payroll expense in the current economic environment.”

The spokeswoman did not say how many employees would lose their jobs, telling the newspaper that it had to notify employees first. The job cuts would not occur in the company’s stores.

More details are expected later today.

There is one thing that comes to mind after reading this story:

With the layoffs at Target, was it wise for them to spend millions of dollars on nameing rights for the new Twins stadium????

I mean, what’s more important??? Naming rights or making sure people have a roof over their head and food to eat??
