UnitedHealth Group has earned LEED-Gold certification for a 10-story building at the company’s headquarters in Minnetonka. LEED is a standard by the U.S. Green Building Council that’s short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

The building opened last June and is the 22nd LEED-certified commercial building in the state, according to the company.

Among its features:

  • Light fixtures that automatically shut off when rooms are unoccupied or receiving natural light.
  • Low-flow water fixtures and a weather-sensitive irrigation system that will reduce water use.
  • And prime parking spaces for employees who carpool or ride their bikes to work.

The 350,000-square-foot building was designed by Opus Architecture & Engineering with help from Hammel, Green and Abrahamson.
