Best Buy to sell electric motorcycles on West Coast

Will Best Buy’s Geek Squad eventually upgrade to a hipper ride?

Greentech Media reports that Best Buy (BBY) is getting into the motorcycle business. Specifically, the company is going to start selling an electric two-wheeler called the Enertia at five West Coast stores in May.

The vehicles are made by an Oregon company called Brammo, which Best Buy Venture Capital invested in last year. Brammo CEO Craig Bramscher tells Greentech Media that he envisions someday selling thousands of the bikes at Best Buys nationwide.

It’s not as crazy as it sounds, Bramscher said. Many Best Buys already have garage bays that are underused, he said. Also, the bikes have a geek-factor, with features that include a built-in web server. Huh?

“What we’re selling is a lot closer to consumer electronics than to transportation,” he tells Greentech Media.
