R&D emphasis transforms 3M into ‘tech powerhouse’

Scott Carlson writes about how in recent years 3M has quietly “transformed itself into a cutting-edge, technology-driven powerhouse.”

Recent news about the company has included deals and developments related to fiber-optic management products and lightweight batteries for laptops and cell phones.

One factor might be a re-investment in R&D under CEO George Buckley, whose background is as a scientist.
