Target is touting a new limited-edition line of “eco-friendly” yard and garden products.

The items include a trowel, cultivator, watering can, solar lights, hammock and composter. They’re made from “recycled and renewable materials” and were designed by a green design company in Philadelphia called MIO.

In its press release, Target says it is trying to make “‘going green’ accessible to all Target guests.” Good for them, but it’s worth noting, too, that the “greenest” choice is almost always to use what you already own or to buy used.

I suppose if $99 composters introduce the practice to a new audience, though, we shouldn’t discount the potential impact.
