A new ranking of the best companies for developing leaders places 3M atop the list, over companies such as GE and IBM.
USA Today has a Q&A with 3M CEO George Buckley about how the company tries to create the leaders of the future.
Certain things such as morals and intelligence can’t be taught, Buckley said. But tools such as strategic thinking can be shared. “In the end, maybe you can’t plant leadership in a person, but you certainly can enhance it in a person.”
One newsier bit from the interview: Buckley says Sen. Norm Coleman sought out his advice before deciding whether to support an auto-industry bailout.
