Cargill is sweetening its portfolio with a new factory in the Netherlands for chocolate coatings and fillings.

Jos de Loor, managing director of Cargill’s cocoa and chocolate business, said in the company’s press release that coating and filling things with chocolate is becoming more and more complex. I guess a simple chocolate river won’t do anymore.

ConfectionaryNews.com reports that Cargill isn’t alone in investing in chocolate. It quotes an ADM director saying he’s convinced chocolate is recession-proof, “because it is the most affordable product to indulge ourselves and our friends.”

Cargill says its new facility is “ideally located,” with strong connections to the company’s other facilities.
