Medtronic using goats, sheep to clear brush in California

A high-tech company turns to a low-tech (and green) solution.

Medtronic has contracted with a San Francisco company to supply a flock of sheep and goats to take care of landscaping around its Santa Rosa, Calif., cardiovascular headquarters, the Press Democrat newspaper reports.

Actually their main purpose is clearing firebreaks on the campus. “I’m really amazed at how much they’ve gone through,” the company’s facility manager tells the paper.

Medtronic spokesman Chuck Grothaus said via Twitter that if dry brush needed clearing around its Fridley headquarters, we’d probably see the animals enlisted here, too.
