Canterbury blames economy, competition for 2Q loss

Canterbury Park Holding Corp. investors don’t have any winnings to collect for the second quarter.

The racetrack owner lost $173,000 in the three months ending June 30. The company reported today that its $11.2 million second-quarter revenue was down 19 percent from a year ago.

Canterbury CEO Randy Sampson attributed the loss to “a steep decline in discretionary spending on entertainment,” as well as new competition from Running Aces in Anoka.
