Is Select Comfort bouncing back?

The local bed retailer reported July numbers to its shareholders on Tuesday. Under ordinary circumstances, they’d be nothing to jump up and down about. Sales were down 10 percent, compared with last July.

That decline, though, is smaller than the ones seen in late 2008 and the first half of ’09, and factoring out stores that have closed in the past year, same-store sales actually increased by 1 percent. And get this: The company actually turned a profit during the month.

Select Comfort credited the net income to cost-cutting and higher-than-expected sales. It also said it’s going to stop selling its beds in non-company-owned stores as part of a new distribution strategy.

  1. Select comfort … is that where rich fatcats and CEOs get bailouts and the rest of us get evicted? True, it doesn’t sound very universally comfortable to me.

  2. Glad to hear Select Comfort sales are up. Maybe now their home delivery workers will receive a full paycheck and get paid on time. How can you run deliverys and not pay your workers on time? What is the new distribution strategy? Is Select Comfort going away from set up and delivery of the product?
