Target touts partnership with iTunes, Pearl Jam

Target is touting its new partnership with Pearl Jam, announcing the band’s forthcoming album will be available “exclusively” at Target and And iTunes. And Pearl Jam’s fan website. And independent retailers. Basically, you won’t find Backspacer at Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

“We’re thrilled to be working with iTunes to provide our guests with exclusive content, bringing a fresh new approach to our music retail,” said Mark Schindele, Target’s senior VP for merchandising. According to the press release, Target customers will get access to exclusive bonus tracks and behind-the-scenes videos via the iTunes store.

The album’s lead single, “The Fixer,” is for sale on iTunes. (I bought it yesterday and really like it, and I haven’t really liked anything Pearl Jam’s done in more than a decade.) The iTunes page prominently features a link to download Target’s iPhone app.
