General Mills says new fiscal year off to a good start

General Mills says its off to strong start in its new fiscal year.

In a brief statement to investors today, the company said it estimates that first-quarter profits will exceed its internal targets. The quarter ended Aug. 30, and it will report results Sept. 23.

In addition to “good growth” in its food brands, General Mills said margins are improving after inflation caused them to shrink last year.
