Target plans to hire fewer seasonal workers this winter than it did last year, CNBC reports.
A spokesperson says the retailer instead will focus on increasing current workers’ hours and cross-training them to work in multiple departments.
Job turnover at large retailers has plummeted since last year, which means fewer new jobs opening up for the holidays.
At Home Depot, for example, or about two in five employees, or 40 percent, quit in any given year. This year, that turnover percentage has been in the single digits, the company said.
