Without Circuit City on the scene, Best Buy plans to hire more staff for the coming holiday season.
Market share is up, and store officials expect higher holidays sales, says the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn said the Richfield-based electronics retailer has gained market share since the demise of Circuit City last year and expects more market share improvement, fueled by strong appliances sales, the Journal reports.
“We are hiring more people for seasonal sales this year than last year,” Dunn said. “Circuit City’s demise has put customers in play and … we have gained more market share than anybody since Circuit City’s departure.”
Dunn predicted that flat-screen televisions, Blu-ray players, digital eReaders, smartphones and netbooks will help boost holiday sales.
