When Smith joined the company in 1994, it “was a mess,” she recalled. She became CEO in 1996 and used her franchising experience to organize and expand the operation, which now sells 1.2 million wings a week.
Stadium scoreboard-sized plasma TVs have been part of the formula for success. Showing the big game on the big screens has brought in crowds and apparently made the restaurants a hot spot for local reporters to get anecdotes about sports fans.
