Caribou Coffee upgrading to energy-saving CFLs

Caribou Coffee is changing light bulbs.

The company’s supplier announced this morning that Caribou Coffee is mandating the use of compact fluorescent lights, or CFLs, in all of its corporate-owned coffee shops.

The switch from older halogen bulbs is expected to save each location up to 70 percent in lighting costs and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the company said.

“Along with our support of sustaining coffee production … this is yet another important step Caribou Coffee is taking in our quest to be mindful and sustainable in our business practices,” Caribou Coffee CEO Mike Tattersfield said in the press release.

More than half the shops already have the new lighting, and the rest will be upgraded by the end of the year.

Makes good business sense to switch to CFLs. They may have lost Michele Bachmann’s business, but she preferred Starbuck’s anyhow.
