Target rolled into a bestseller-book price war Monday with Wal-Mart and Amazon.com. The retailer announced it will sell several anticipated bestsellers on its website for $8.99.

The move comes a few days after Wal-Mart said it would sell several high-profile hardcovers on its website for $10 with free shipping. Amazon.com, meanwhile has many of the books prices at $9.

“There is going to be a longer-term cost to cheap books,” one analyst tells the Associated Press. The trend could hurt independent bookstores and cut authors’ advances and editors’ salaries.
