Stratasys inks deal to make Hewlett-Packard branded 3D printers: Stratasys has signed a deal with Hewlett-Packard that will allow the Eden Prairie-based company to begin making HP-branded 3D printers later this year. The printers are used by product designers and architects for three-dimensional plastic models directly from 3D digital designs. Read full story

Fastenal shed 1,500 employees in 2009 as earnings, sales slid: Winona-based Fastenal Co. disclosed today that it cut more than 1,500 jobs in 2009. It reduced its employee ranks almost 12 percent, to 12,045 at the end of last year, down from 13,634 at the end of 2008. In a press release announcing its fourth-quarter results, Fastenal said the weakened economy continues to have a substantial impact on the retailer specializing in construction and industrial production industry fasteners and equipment. “Green” brick company lands Acme deal: Vast Enterprises, a maker of environmentally friendly pavers, has inked a distribution deal with brick manufacturing giant Acme Brick Co. Acme, the largest brick-maker in the United States, will distribute Minneapolis-based Vast’s paver products in nine states. The deal marks Acme’s entrance into the “green” building materials market. AmericInn parent taps Fast Horse as agency of record: Northcott Hospitality International, the parent company of the AmericInn International hotel chain, has hired Minneapolis marketing firm Fast Horse Inc. as its agency of record. Fast Horse will develop media relations, brand development and online-engagement strategies for Chanhassen-based Northcott and the AmericInn brand. Read full story
